AN INDEPENDENT OPTICIANS, NOT A CHAIN.
Every eye test at our Birmingham City Centre studio is carried out by an optometrist and takes at least 30 minutes. Retinal imaging and pressure checks are included, and we talk through how you actually use your eyes: screens, driving, reading and the rest of your day.
Every prescription lens we fit is Zeiss, with 1.6 index and DuraVision Platinum coating as standard. Your measurements are taken digitally on the Zeiss Visufit 1000, so varifocals and stronger prescriptions sit exactly where they should.
The frames are our own. Dr. J, HYDE and Signature are conceived in Birmingham, so you won't find them in a chain store. Already own a frame you love? We can reglaze your glasses with Zeiss lenses from £155.

How much is an eye test?
A private eye test in Birmingham at J.HYDE is £40. It's complimentary when you buy prescription lenses with us, including in a frame you already own.
How long does an eye test take?
At least 30 minutes, with retinal imaging included.
How long do new glasses take?
Usually one to two weeks. We book a fitting when they're ready.
Do you fit contact lenses?
Yes, by arrangement. We also match online prices on your contact lenses.
