Your frames are made to last. A little care goes a long way.
01 — Your lenses
Zeiss lenses are precision instruments. Treated well, they will perform flawlessly for years.
Cleaning — the right way
Always use the microfibre cloth enclosed with your frames. It is designed specifically for optical coatings and will not scratch.
For a deeper clean, use the lens spray included in your case, or Zeiss Lens Wipes — available at either studio. Apply spray directly to the lens and wipe in a gentle circular motion. Rinse under lukewarm water first if lenses are heavily soiled — this removes grit that could cause micro-scratches.
What to avoid
Never use hot water — it can damage lens coatings and warp frames. Never use paper towels, tissues, or clothing to clean your lenses. Avoid household cleaners, solvents, or anything not designed for optical lenses. Do not leave your glasses face down on any surface.
02 — Your frames
Your frames are crafted to be worn every day. A few simple habits will keep them at their best.
Handling
Always use both hands when putting your frames on and taking them off. One-handed use places uneven pressure on the temples and causes misalignment over time.
When not wearing your frames, store them in the case provided — lenses facing up.
What to avoid
Do not leave your frames on a car dashboard or in direct sunlight. Excessive heat affects both frames and lens coatings. Keep frames away from radiators, saunas, and steam. Avoid resting frames on your head for long periods — this gradually stretches the temples. Do not store frames in a bag without their case.
03 — Your vision
Every pair of J.HYDE frames leaves the studio having been dispensed and checked to your prescription.
Whether you have chosen single vision, varifocal, or occupational lenses, your eyes and brain may need a little time to adjust — particularly if your prescription has changed, if you are a first-time wearer, or if your lenses correct a degree of astigmatism. This is completely normal.
Single vision — 1 to 14 days Most wearers adapt quickly. A changed prescription, higher power, or correction for astigmatism may take up to two weeks to fully settle. Wear them as much as possible.
Varifocal — 1 to 4 weeks You may notice a softness at the edges or a shift in depth perception as your eyes learn to use different zones of the lens. First-time varifocal wearers may need the full four weeks. Wear them consistently — the more you wear them, the faster you will adapt.
Occupational — 1 to 2 weeks Occupational lenses are designed for intermediate and near tasks — screens, reading, desk work. Distance vision through these lenses will appear soft — this is by design, not a fault.
If after these windows your vision still does not feel comfortable, please get in touch. It may simply need a minor refinement — this is not uncommon and nothing to be concerned about.
04 — The fit
Every pair is fitted and adjusted before it leaves the studio. Frames and faces settle together over the first few wears.
A slight shift in how your frames sit is normal in the first week. If after a few days you notice persistent pressure on the nose or temples, or if one side sits higher than the other, please get in touch.
Adjustments
We are always happy to adjust your frames for as long as you own them. We'd recommend calling ahead to make sure the right person is available — though we will always do our best if you drop in.
05 — Zeiss lens warranty
All clear Zeiss lenses supplied by J.HYDE are covered by an 18-month manufacturer's guarantee. Should your lenses develop superficial scratches through normal everyday wear, Zeiss will replace them once, free of charge, within the guarantee period.
This guarantee does not cover damage resulting from improper use, mishandling, or failure to follow the care guidelines in this document.
To make a claim, bring your frames into either J.HYDE studio. We will assess the lenses and manage the authorisation process with Zeiss directly on your behalf.
One replacement set per purchase. This guarantee applies to clear Zeiss lenses only and does not extend to tinted lenses.
