SOME FRAMES ARE WORTH KEEPING.
You found the right frame. It fits, it suits you, and you've no interest in starting again — you just need lenses that work.
That's a reasonable thing to want, and it's not what most opticians are set up for. The high street would rather sell you a new frame. We'd rather put the best lenses available into the one you already love.
Every reglaze at J.HYDE uses Zeiss lenses as standard, measured digitally — Visufit 1000 at City Centre, Zeiss i.Terminal at Mere Green. The same precision we'd apply to a frame bought here.
Reglazing is done in studio only. We need the frame in front of us to assess it honestly, and we need you in front of us to measure properly. A frame in a jiffy bag and a prescription in an email isn't good enough for lenses you'll wear every day.
NOT EVERY FRAME CAN BE REGLAZED.
Acetate becomes brittle with age. Metal frames fatigue at the joints. Some shapes hold a lens fine; others were never built to be reglazed twice.
We've reglazed frames from most manufacturers over the years, including Cartier, Dita, Jacques Marie Mage and Louis Vuitton. Some are more suitable than others: certain rimless and wire designs, and some older luxury frames, carry more risk. We'll tell you which yours is before you commit.
We assess your frame before you commit to anything — and if we don't think it'll survive the process, we'll tell you before you've spent a penny. That's a conversation worth having in person, which is another reason we do this in studio.
Because reglazing carries some risk with any frame, we'll ask you to sign a short disclaimer before we begin. We take every care, but we can't take responsibility for damage that occurs during glazing. We'd rather be upfront about that than surprise you on the day.

REGLAZING — COMMON QUESTIONS
Can I reglaze my own frames at J.HYDE?
Yes, at both studios — subject to the condition of the frame. We assess it before you commit to anything.
Do you reglaze designer and luxury frames?
We've reglazed frames from most manufacturers over the years, including Cartier, Dita, Jacques Marie Mage and Louis Vuitton. Certain rimless and wire designs, and some older luxury frames, carry more risk — we'll assess yours and tell you honestly before you commit.
How much does reglazing cost?
From £155 for single vision and from £325 for varifocals, with Zeiss lenses as standard. The full range is available — SmartLife Individual from £275, Progressive Wider from £425, Progressive Widest from £575. Tints and specialist options are quoted individually.
What's included in the price?
Zeiss DuraVision Platinum coating and 1.6 index as standard, plus a private eye test worth £40 with any lens purchase.
How long does reglazing take?
7–10 working days for single vision, 10–14 for varifocals. Tinted and specialist lenses vary with complexity.
Is there any risk to my frame?
There's always some risk when working with a frame that wasn't made for the lenses going into it. We assess yours first and won't proceed if we think it's likely to fail. We do ask you to sign a short disclaimer before we begin — we take every care, but we can't take responsibility for damage during glazing.
Do you reglaze by post?
No. We need to assess the frame in person and measure you digitally — it's the only way to get it right.
What if my frame can't be reglazed?
We'll tell you before you commit. Age, material and design all affect whether a frame will survive the process, and we won't take the risk with something you care about.
Do you need my prescription?
If you have a current one, bring it. If not, we can test your eyes — £40, and included with any lens purchase, including a reglaze.
Which lenses do you use?
Zeiss, as standard, with DuraVision Platinum coating and 1.6 index included. Not an upgrade — it's what you get.
How do I book?
Book a reglaze appointment online and bring your frames with you. We'll assess them, talk through lens options, and measure you digitally in the same visit.
